The area of medical sciences at UniTrento is growing, step by step, little by little. With the establishment of this Centre, it is starring to take shape, build its identity. The creation of the Interdepartmental Center for Medical Sciences (CISMed) and the appointment of Olivier Jousson as director mark a new phase in the history of our University.
The development of the medical sciences area of the University began in mid-December when a proposal was approved by the Councils of the Department of Cellular, Computational and Integrated Biology and of the Department of Psychology and Cognitive Sciences. The Academic Senate then gave a green light on 18 December, and the Board of Directors approved it on 21 December. The Academic Senate is expected to give its final approval today. Then it will be up to the Rector, by decree, to establish the CISMed and appoint its first director.
The establishment of the Interdepartmental Center for Medical Sciences is another piece of the complex, global design of the Trento School of Medicine, and a necessary step to define the role of UniTrento and in relations with the Provincial Health Care Services. From the next academic year, the Center will become the core facility of the inter-university single-cycle Master's degree in Medicine and Surgery and will therefore deal with all aspects of the course. The headquarters of the Center will be located at Palazzo Consolati, in the heart of Trento, where students attend classes in this first year.
The Departments and Centers involved in CISMed are the Department of Cellular, Computational and Integrated Biology - Cibio and the Department of Psychology and Cognitive Sciences; CIMeC, the Center for Mind/Brain Sciences, participates in a supporting role. However, other departments will soon join the effort, contributing to the creation of a genuine multidisciplinary department for the School of Medicine of UniTrento.
The academic staff includes 22 professors from the participating departments. They will be joined in the future by other colleagues from the University and new ones who will be recruited for the project.
The mandate of director Olivier Jousson, who will establish the CISMed, will continue until 30 September 2023 and can be renewed.
