Due to the ongoing global COVID-19 emergency, UniTrento students selected for outgoing mobility during the first semester of the 2020/2021 academic year may choose one of the following options:
- Postpone their period abroad to the second semester of the 2020/2021 academic year. This is contingent upon each student’s study plan, course offerings and approval by the host university.
- Participate as planned in their period abroad during the first semester of the 2020/2021 academic year. This is subject to approval by the host university and in compliance with COVID-19 management policies implemented in the destination country. Students should be aware that this could include quarantine and other measures, in addition to potential cancellation of return transportation to Italy. For this reason, students should consider acquiring a travel insurance policy which covers these risks, as well as a health insurance policy that covers hospitalization and treatment for pandemics.
- Begin a period of virtual mobility on-line directly from Italy or from wherever the student may reside. This must also be authorized by the host university or institution. In this case, students will not benefit from an exchange scholarship because this financial contribution is intended for travel to and a period of stay in a foreign country. However, virtual mobility activities will be officially recognized on the transcript of records and at the same time students can participate in courses offered by UniTrento. For internships conducted remotely via Smart Working students must have the prior approval of their academic tutor.
With regard to the Erasmus+ program, students can begin their exchange remotely on-line, but the mobility period must conclude with a planned presence abroad at the host institution (physical mobility) when permitted by the global health emergency at the time. A scholarship will be provided only for those days during which the student is physically present abroad and actively engaged in their planned activities. If continued restrictions due to the COVID-19 emergency inhibit completion of mobility with a period of physical presence abroad, the entire period of virtual mobility will be recognized as valid.
Before travelling, it is strongly recommended that students verify if there are any restrictions imposed by the country where they intend to spend their period abroad. This country-specific information can be found on the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs website and on the websites of Italian Embassies and Consulates in the destination country.
Furthermore, students are asked to pay particular attention to the policies adopted by host universities, as well as consult safe travel and behavior recommendations issued by the World Health Organization in relation to the COVID-19 emergency.
These indications are valid for all international exchange programs currently active at UniTrento, including Bilateral Agreements, Double Degrees, Erasmus+ in Europe, Thesis Research, Doctoral Research and internships abroad.
