“Science,Technology and Global Affairs”

New Course at the MEIS

Versione stampabile

The School of International Studies (SIS) offers a new course on "Science, Technology and Global Affairs".
Taking a truly multidisciplinary approach to bridge the gap between social and natural sciences, the course explores how technological innovation is linked to and impacts on global security and politico-economic phenomena. Special focus is placed on four crucial issues, where the interaction between technological innovation and global affairs is particularly intense and relevant in the current international scenario, i.e. nuclear non-proliferation, climate change, cyber-security, and space.
In a multidisciplinary fashion to cover both their “hard” and social sciences dimensions, the teaching staff – coordinated by Prof. Paolo Foradori - includes scholars from the School of International Studies and from the Departments of Physics (Ignazio Lazzizzera, Giuseppina Orlandini), Civil and Environmental Engineering (Dino Zardi) and Mathematics (Massimiliano Sala) of the University of Trento.
The course is suitable both for students of international studies and for students with backgrounds in science. It may be taken by postgraduates from anywhere in the university. Students of international studies will be provided with advanced knowledge to understand the scientific and technical aspects involved in these issues and, vice-versa, students with scientific backgrounds will be provided with a vision of the social, institutional, political and economic consequences of technological innovation.
This 36-hour course starts on 27 September 2018 and is taught on Thursday (16-18) and Friday (08-10) in room 109 at the School of International Studies, Palazzo Prodi, via Tommaso Gar 14.
