Abstract:
Metastasis requires coordination between cell-intrinsic programs along with factors from the surrounding tumor microenvironment (TME). The zebrafish is an ideal system to interrogate this biology because of facile genetic tools that allow for perturbation of both tumor cell and TME compartments.  We have developed two complementary systems for studying metastasis in the zebrafish – the TEAZ-based transgenic electroporation system and the ZMEL1-based cell transplantation system 

These technologies have allowed us to uncover several new factors from the TME that promote metastasis. The seminar will discuss our most recent findings from these studies, including our recent observations about the role of adipocytes in melanoma
