Topic and Objective

The aim of the training school is to provide a unique training programme that will cover all different aspects of structure protection, including the necessary scientific and engineering/technical background as well as management and personal transferable skills. Therefore, the training school aims to foster a new generation of highly qualified researchers and engineers, which will create a critical mass kernel, able to implement a holistic and novel soil-foundation-structure concept for the efficient protection of structures from all ground induced hazards, including earthquakes and all other sources of low-frequency noise and vibration excitations. 

Hence, the objective of the Winter School is to offer innovative training ground instability and buckling in structural mechanics, project organization and management in geotechnical engineering and erection of structures, 
performance-based earthquake engineering for seismic risk, vibration- and guided waves-based identification of structures, control of mechanic and thermal energy by advanced artificial materials, an introduction to nonlinear metamaterials
fundamentals of acoustics and noise insulation, experimental approaches for seismic protection of structures and infrastructures, wave propagation in earthquake engineering and hands-on tutorials.
