PROGRAMME

Coatings are generally applied to the surface of object (the substrate) for decorative and/or functional purpose. With functional coatings, the surface properties of the substrate (adhesion, wettability, corrosion resistance, conductivity, roughness, hardness…) can be changed while keeping some properties of the substrate (as good mechanical properties and low cost in the case of steel).

The purpose of these courses, “Electrochemical methods in direct current” is to understand how using these technics, we can determine the best conditions to elaborate performant coatings (pure metals, alloys, oxides, composites) with controlled thickness on conductive substrates. The different technics we are going to discuss using are:

  1. open circuit potential
  2. chronopotentiometric techniques
  3. chronoamperometric techniques
  4. voltametry
  5. cyclic voltametry

Biosketch

Marielle Eyraud received her PhD in 1993 in Chemistry from the University of Provence in Marseille. Then, she joined for a European post doctoral position the research group led by Prof J.P. Celis at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. She came back in Marseille for a permanent position in 1995. To date, she has published 50 papers and made 37 oral presentations, mainly devoted in mechanism of electrodeposition of pure metallic layers, alloys or oxide. She is also involved in corrosion science. More recently, she focussed on surface nanostructuration (as TiO2 nanotubes) for energy or biomedical applications.
