In this lecture, I will start by introducing the basics of constraint programming as a modeling framework. Constraint programming languages provide a rich set of primitives for modeling combinatorial optimization problems and hence find a range of applications. In particular, constraint programming has recently been applied to problems in data mining such as frequent itemset mining. I will discuss the modeling and algorithmic issues arising from this application and the novel applications it enables in data mining.

About the Speaker

George Katsirelos is a researcher at France's national institute for research in agronomy. His research interests include artificial intelligence, combinatorial optimization and bioinformatics. He completed his PhD at the University of Toronto in 2008 and held research positions at NICTA, Australia and LRI, Paris, France.
