Abstract

Personal lifelogging is the process of capturing multiple aspects of one’s life in digital form, the so called personal life archives, and is becoming an increasingly important research topic. These personal life archives can contain information about every activity an individual participates in, such as where they go, how they get there, who they speak with, what they see and what information they access. In effect, a multi-source, detailed, digital life diary is being generated for every individual who chooses to do use such technologies. It is our conjecture that given the right capture technologies, coupled with a new generation of data organisation techniques and semantic multimedia annotation, new ways of interacting with our own personal life archives will emerge and change the way we view ourselves and our activities. In this presentation, I will give an overview of past efforts to capture personal life archives in the research community, and try to inspire and motivate researchers in the multimedia community to use their know-how in this new emerging and societal important area. I will also propose and discuss how future personal life archive data should be stored and organised, and therefore made easy for a user to access via an appropriate search mechanism.

About the Speaker

Duc Tien Dang Nguyen is an Associate Professor at the department of Information Science and Media Studies, University of Bergen, Norway. His main area of expertise is on lifelogging, multimedia forensics and multimedia analytics. Within the field of lifelogging, he coordinates the three most important bench-marking initiatives, the NTCIR Lifelog, the ImageCLEF Lifelog, and the Lifelog Search Challenge. He also holds position on numerous editorial boards, review committees and conference steering committees.
