Abstract:
Convex Algebraic Geometry lives at the intersection of Convex Geometry, Algebraic Geometry and Real Algebra. Classically, convex geometry has been studied from an analytical point of view. The underlying theme of our research is to approach it using tools from (real) algebraic geometry, with a focus on semialgebraic convex bodies, beyond polytopes. In this context, the object that better encodes the interaction among algebraic geometry and convexity is the algebraic boundary. I will give a friendly introduction to these notions and then focus on some interesting families of convex bodies in order to highlight concrete results and open questions.
The seminar will be held both in presence in Seminar Room "-1" (Povo 0) and online via Zoom.
