Title
Maximal ideals and the Axiom of Choice
Abstract
At the foundation of most of modern mathematics sit the axioms of Zermelo-Fraenkel Set Theory with Choice (ZFC). Of these axioms, the Axiom of Choice has generated the most controversy. Consequently, the Axiom of Choice is still mentioned explicitly whenever used outside of set theory, while the other axioms often go unmentioned whenever used. However, there are many statements which are shown to be equivalent to Axiom of Choice. In this talk we show that Axiom of Choice and the statement “every unique factorization domain has a maximal ideal” are equivalent.

Aritmetica Cardinale ed Ipotesi Generalizzata del Continuo
Abstract
Nello studio dell'esponenziazione di cardinali, l'ipotesi generalizzata del continuo ricopre un ruolo fondamentale. Lo scopo di questo seminario è pertanto quello di confrontare i diversi risultati a cui si arriva a seconda se si assuma o meno tale ipotesi, ed infine mostrare quali sono le conseguenze se si assume l'ipotesi del cardinale singolare.
