Abstract:
Some types of noncommutative algebras appear naturally in algebraic geometry and in particular in the minimal model program. These algebras can in fact be viewed as "noncommutative resolutions" (NCRs) of singularities. We will give some examples of this in the talk and we will also explain how these NCRs are, sometimes conjecturally, connected with their commutative counterparts via the theory of derived categories.
