Fibrations of (1,2) surfaces and 3-folds of general type

Abstract:
I will consider certain 3-folds which are fibrations of surfaces over a curve. Such constructions are particularly interesting from the viewpoint of the geography of invariants of 3-folds of general type, enjoying a similar status to genus 2 fibrations for surfaces. I will describe methods that can be used to create new fibrations from old ones, combining some classical ideas with techniques of the minimal model program and stable surfaces.
