Topics in Mathematical Physics, Quantum spin systems on infinite lattices
Venue: Seminar Room "-1" - Department of Mathematics – Via Sommarive, 14 - Povo Trento
Hour: 11.00 a.m.
- Christiaan Van de Ven - PhD in Mathematics
Abstract:
The seminar consists of different topics. We first discuss the notion of an algebraic ground state and compare this to the lowest eigenvector of an Hamiltonian. This is based on the so-called GNS construction. Then we will say something about the quasi-local algebra and bounded finite range interactions with application to quantum spin systems. Finally, we discuss spontaneous symmetry breaking (SSB) applied to the quantum Ising model, where a continuous field of states on a continuous bundle of C*-algebras is used.
The seminar corresponds to the final exam of Topics in the Mathematical Phisics of Quantum Theories Van de Ven's first year PHD study programme
