Titolo: EEG data analysis and clinical applications

Abstract: Electroencephalographic data analysis (EEG) is an important tool also used in the clinical setting. The quantification of data becomes always more essential even in hospital. The EEG acquisition systems, the issues related to artifacts generated on the signal and some applications in the study of the motor areas will be discussed. The techniques of EEG data analysis used in the studies described are based on frequency and time-frequency methods, as the Fourier and the Wavelet transforms. The possibility to combine EEG system with other instruments will be also highlighted.

Titolo: High-density Electroencephalography and Electrical Source Imaging

Abstract: Electrical source imaging (ESI) aims at reconstructing the electrical brain activity from scalp electroencephalography (EEG). ESI involves numerous electrodes and realistic head models derived from structural magnetic resonance imaging. The assumption about the number of electrodes, geometric and anatomical properties, conductive volume and waveform characteristics can enhance the precision of the inverse solution. The objectives of the lesson are the presentation of the recent high-density EEG systems, the basic principles of recording, the experimental designs and the classical methods of analysis. Several applications will be discussed in physiological as well as in pathological condition, especially in epilepsy.
