Abstract

Stochastic epidemiological models which can describe real life systems become very quickly quite complex. Approximation schemes are a useful tool to understand the qualitative behaviour of such systems. Several schemes have been proposed, among which the so called semiclassical approximation. We will describe some of those schemes for a simple, yet not analytically treatable, SIS model with import. We will also illustrate the semiclassical approximation for a simple process, the linear infection model, where the equations of motion can be solved analytically.
