Abstract:
With increasing frequency, potential  pandemics arise in different parts of the globe and rapid spread potential assessment and plans for interventions are required with a certain urgency. Some of the statistical problems related to inference about epidemic parameters in the early phase of spread will be presented, in particular concerning estimation of the generation time distribution and short time predictions.
