Exploring new applications and uses of the relevance concept

Abstract
The concept of ‘relevance’ has been proposed in the last years [Marsili and Roudi, Phys. Rep. 963, 1 (2022)] as an elegant way, founded on the grounds of information theory, to deal with problems of inference, coarse-graining, or similar, which are inherent to the analysis and interpretation of high-dimensional datasets. In this seminar (i) I will present a particular application to a problem of coarse-graining or dimensionality reduction in datasets of biological foraging trajectories in which my group of research has been working recently, and then (ii) I will introduce for discussion some possible ideas and future lines of research that could be worth exploring as alternative applications of this ‘relevance’ concept.
