Abstract

Typically, we merge ideas to form a substantial grant, like an ERC. In this presentation, I aim to discuss the converse scenario: how a very ambitious project transformed into two big national (Danish) grants, one of which a prestigious career grant (DFF Sapere Aude). Yet, instead of commencing with the successful story, this talk will delve into the failures and the lessons learned before obtaining the awards. Concluding, I will provide an overview of the two projects, encompassing knowledge graph exploration, the underlying concept, and the preliminary outcomes we have accomplished

About the speaker

Davide Mottin is an Associate Professor at Aarhus University working on data management, data mining, and machine learning. His research covers graph exploration, data summaries, user-in-the-loop active learning methods for graphs, graph embeddings, efficient similarity computation, graph correspondences, and graph queries and indexing. He has published 60+ publications on flagship venues in data mining, data management, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. He published a book on example-based data exploration methods, and presented lectures and tutorials on data exploration, graph exploration, and knowledge-augmented methods for biomedicine. He has been awarded two individual research grants from German Research Council (DFG) and the prestigious Sapere Aude from the Independent Research Fund Denmark (DFF). He has been involved in 6 projects, 3 as a PI, on fundamental and applied research funded by industrial, private and public bodies
