Abstract:
Catalytic models have been widely used to estimate the age-specific force of infection associated with childhood infectious diseases from serological data. Modeling efforts conducted in the last decades have extended the original formulation to estimate the age-specific immunity profile from the age distribution of cases observed at different times, accounting for temporal changes in the circulation of the infection and for the influence of past vaccination activities. Here we reviewed different modeling approaches to estimate the level of sterilizing immunity against the infection and discuss the potential application of catalytic models to study the COVID-19 pandemic.
