Where Will the Millennials Take Us?

This talk has three major goals. First, to provide a brief overview of the theoretical framework for analyzing gender as a social structure. Second, to present data on a variety of American samples of Millennials and their positionality vis a vis the gender structure, with particular attention to their views of marriage and relationships. Finally, to argue that in order to reach a just world with full equality we must construct a post-gender society

Barbara Risman has been Head of the Department of Sociology at the University of Illinois at Chicago, President-Elect (2014-2015) of the Southern Sociological Society and still Vice-President Elect of the American Sociological Association. After a year fellowship at Stanford she is now Visiting Professor at the Department of Sociology here in Trento
