Natalia Samutina is Head of the Research Centre for Contemporary Culture at the Higher School of Economics, Moscow, and associate professor at the Faculty of Social Science. Her presentation will be dedicated to the current state and perspectives of research on participatory cultures (fandoms, bloggers, vidders and other online and offline participatory communities, including some forms of street art and graffiti-writing, city games, etc.). First, she is going to present a project on participatory cultures and practices which her research centre in Moscow is currently working on. Second, she will be discussing the problem of local specificities, local cultural influences, national languages, etc., underestimated within contemporary fan studies, concentrated more on global, English-language trends. The third part will be devoted to open discussion and comparative perspectives
