"Two Violent Pathways on the Micro/Macro Continuum"

In the talk, the micro-sociology of violence is expanded to consider longer periods of time and larger distances in space. Examples are the differences between short pub fights, local riots, revolutionary uprisings, and civil war. All have the same micro-mechanisms, but conditions that move conflict up the macro dimension make emotional domination and rapid tipping-points less likely, and turn conflict into grinding attrition.
