Speaker

  • Peter Kivisto, Augustana College, Rock Island, Illinois (USA)

One of the consequences of global migration is that religious diversity has increased in the major migrant receiving nations during the past several decades. Once a neglected topic in sociology, the religion of immigrants has been a major research focus during the past two decades. This course will attempt to make sense of the now vast literature on the subject.
Peter Kivisto is the Richard A. Swanson Professor of Social Thought at Augustana College, Rock Island, IL and Research Fellow at both the University of Helsinki and University of Trento. He is the author or editor of 30 books, including Religion and Immigration: Migrant faiths in Northern America and Western Europe, Polity, 2014, and Solidarity, justice and incorporation (with G. Sciortino – eds.), Oxford University Press, 2015.

The seminar is held in english.

Aimed to students of the Department of Sociology and Social Research, it is especially recommended for students of the Master's degree (corsi di Laurea magistrale in: “Sociologia e Ricerca Sociale”, “Gestione delle organizzazioni e del Territorio”, e “Metodologia, organizzazione e valutazione dei Servizi Sociali”).

Students admitted at the seminar, attending al least 75% of seminar’s lesson and fulfilling the requirements of the teacher (preparation and discussion of articles) will obtain 1 CFU (university credits).

Online registration is open until May 21, 2015 (Maximum Number of participants: 15)
