Preparing for a career an international organisation

If you dream of an international career, you cannot miss this intensive 1 day workshop organised by the School of International Studies (SIS) and the Job Guidance Office.
The workshop will be held on 5 November, from 09:00 to 18:00 in Room 229, at the Department of Humanities, via T. Gar.

OBJECTIVES

The workshop is designed as a comprehensive programme of training, support and counseling session geared towards students aspiring to work in international organizations (UN, EU, IMF, etc.) and NGOs but also in business and private companies with a strong international focus.
The workshop will be highly interactive, alternating training, simulation and practical sessions. It will focus in particular on the following three key steps towards embarking on an international career: 1) CV and Cover Letter drafting; 2) Vacancy Analysis & Job Search; 3) Job Interviewing (see below for the full programme). 
Participants will be expected to take an active part in the workshop, such as in possible simulated job interviews.
Moreover, the instructor will guarantee the participants a distance career counseling service for reviewing and editing their cover letters and CVs up to one year after the workshop.

PARTICIPANTS

Attendance to the workshop is limited to 40 students of the University of Trento, enrolled in a Master’s degree or in the last two years of a 5-year degree. 
The workshop will be conducted entirely in English, hence participants must posses certified English competences of at least a B2 level.
Third-year Bachelor’s and recently graduated students may apply and will be placed on a reserve list to fill any free places left. 

THE INSTRUCTOR

Ms. Soraya Johaar-Glick is a human resources expert and works as a freelance consultant providing young professionals guidance and training on career development.  In her last post as a Career Development Officer at UNESCO, Paris, she worked with consultants to develop several career support training modules.  She also counselled individual staff members on career issues. She has been involved in several inter-agency projects, including the creation of a specialised web resource. At United Nations Headquarters in New York, Soraya worked as a Consultant with DFS/DPKO on a specialised training project, the Senior Management Administrative Resource Training (SMART), aimed at training selected staff members to take on more senior roles in Administration. She has served in 5 years in the UN Peacekeeping Mission in Kosovo. She has served on several recruitment panels and provided training on the competency-based interview process to both applicants and panel members. She has developed, co-developed and delivered numerous training and career counselling sessions. She has contributed to two projects that have won the prestigious UN 21 award. She has a degree in Education from Battswood Teachers College, South Africa and a degree in Political Science/Psychology from New York University, USA. 

DEADLINE

Deadline for application is 26 October 2016, at 12:00. Selected participants will be informed of the selection results by 28 October.
