Abstract
In 2020, conflicts remain Africa’s biggest challenge. Covid-19 has possibly made things worse, as armed groups have scaled up attacks and political violence has been on the rise since the beginning of the pandemic. From Nigeria to Mozambique, and most recently Ethiopia, there is a long list of countries where fragility, conflict and violence have deteriorated. This lecture focuses on the main conflicts affecting Africa today, and those that are likely to emerge in the next decade. The lecture also discusses policy implications for the relationship between the European Union and Africa, with regards to conflict prevention and peacebuilding..
