Comincia la seconda fase di ECIU University, il progetto promosso dall'European Consortium of Innovative Universities con l'obiettivo di creare un'università realmente europea e internazionale. UniTrentoMAG spiega cos’è ECIU University e come sarà l’università europea del futuro.
Il 27 luglio, ECIU ha comunicato di aver ricevuto il sostegno del programma Erasmus+ dell’Unione Europea. 14,4 milioni di euro in quattro anni che permetteranno di finanziare, da novembre 2022, la seconda fase del progetto ECIU University. L'obiettivo è creare percorsi di apprendimento flessibili e un campus universitario europeo, dove studenti e studentesse possano apprendere e fare ricerca in una dimensione internazionale e multidisciplinare. Nei prossimi 4 anni, la rete di ECIU coinvolgerà centinaia di migliaia di studenti e studentesse in tutto il mondo, con un forte impatto sociale in tutti i paesi raggiunti.
ECIU è una rete di 13 università europee unite da tre fattori comuni: la dimensione medio-piccola; l’attenzione all’innovazione e all’internazionalizzazione; l’obiettivo di creare un’università internazionale ed europea, che vada al di là dei normali programmi di scambio. Per creare un nuovo modello di università non bastano i metodi didattici convenzionali: è per questo che ECIU University punta a una “nuova pedagogia educativa”, improntata alla soluzione di problemi concreti e alla cooperazione con imprese e città.
Una delle proposte è rivoluzionare il curriculum accademico degli studenti e delle studentesse. ECIU, come conclusione di un corso universitario, non propone una laurea, ma un passaporto di competenze valido in tutta Europa. Un certificato, quindi, che sia composto non solo da esami, ma anche da micro moduli e sfide (le cosiddette "challenges"). La partecipazione a questi micro moduli, così come alle sfide, verrà certificata attraverso le cosiddette micro credenziali registrate nel passaporto digitale delle competenze.
Queste conoscenze spesso sono finalizzate a prepararsi alle sfide, che in questa seconda fase del progetto lavoreranno su problemi globali come il cambiamento climatico. Nella maggior parte dei casi, si tratta di competizioni organizzate da istituzioni e aziende che propongono un quesito e chiedono a studenti e ricercatori di risolverlo: chi trova la soluzione più efficace vince. UniTrento ha lavorato su questo obiettivo attraverso la School of Innovation. Un'esperienza recente sono, ad esempio, le sfide organizzate a maggio nello spazio gestito da Trentino Social Tank a Mezzana. In quel caso la sfida era adattare un modello di co-working al territorio alpino e ripensare il mercato delle telecomunicazioni in modo sostenibile.

ECIU University enters second phase
The second phase of the ECIU University project has now started: ECIU, the European Consortium of Innovative Universities, will continue its work to create a European and international university. The new phase of the project, that our University joined in 2019, has been awarded a 14 million euro grant by the Erasmus+ programme. In this article, UniTrentoMAG will explain what this project is about and what the European university of the future will be like.
On 27 July, ECIU announced that it had received the support of the European Union Erasmus+ programme to start, from November 2022, the second phase of ECIU University. With a budget of 14.4 million euro over 4 years, ECIU and its member universities will continue to develop the main objectives of the project: the creation of flexible learning programmes and a European university campus where students can learn and do research in an international and multidisciplinary environment. Over the next 4 years, the ECIU network will include thousands of students and will be able to create a strong social impact across Europe.
ECIU is a network of 13 European universities that have three things in common: they are small and medium in size, are focused on innovation and internationalization and their goal is to create an international and European university that goes beyond the conventional international exchange programmes. Ordinary teaching methods are not appropriate for new university model: this is why ECIU University aims to create a "new educational pedagogy", based on the solution of real life problems and cooperation with businesses and cities.
One of the objectives of the project is to revolutionize the academic curriculum of students. ECIU does not award degrees but offers students a European competence passport, a much more flexible instrument that does not lists the exams taken, but stores the micro modules that students have completed and the challenges they have participated in. Micro modules are short learning experiences that give students the chance to acquire skills such as a foreign language or a multidisciplinary competence or to learn about a global problem. Participation in these micro modules, as well as in the challenges, is certified through the so-called micro credentials, that will be recorded in the competence passport.
Students participate in learning experiences to prepare themselves for the challenges that, in this second phase of the project, will focus on a wide range of global problems, such as climate change. Challenges are usually organized by institutions and companies that pose a problem that students and researchers must solve: those who find the most effective solution win the challenge. UniTrento has put this ECIU objective into practice through the School of Innovation, which aims to promote learning through challenges. In May, for example, the School of Innovation launched two challenges during the Trentino Social Tank in Mezzana, to adapt a co-working model to the Alpine territory and to rethink the telecommunications market in a sustainable way.
