We are pleased to announce that Professor Vincenzo Carbone, faculty member at the University of Calabria, coordinator of Curriculum 2, and member of the PhD Board of the National PhD program in Space Science and Technology, hosted by the University of Trento, has been awarded the Lewis Fry Richardson Medal. This prestigious honour is granted by the European Geosciences Union (EGU) to internationally renowned scholars for outstanding contributions in the field of Nonlinear Geophysics.
Established in honour of Lewis Fry Richardson, a pioneer in mathematical meteorology, the medal is awarded annually to researchers who, through highly relevant and impactful studies, have significantly advanced the understanding of nonlinear processes governing geophysical systems.
The EGU citation highlights Professor Carbone’s innovative contributions in the fields of space plasma physics, Space Weather, climate change, and the physics of complex systems. His pioneering research has opened new avenues of study, providing significant insights into the complex phenomena characterizing both the Earth’s environment and outer space.
This award is a great honour for Professor Carbone and the entire Department of Physics. It underscores the Department’s excellence and the impact of its research, strengthening its position among leading research institutions and becoming a source of pride for our academic community.
The official presentation of the Lewis Fry Richardson Medal will take place during the next EGU General Assembly, to be held in Vienna from April 27 to May 2, 2025.
