Gamification in the workplace

A key objective for many contemporary organizations is to drive employees’ satisfaction and engagement in the workplace. Recently, the inclusion of gamified elements into the organizations’ practices has been identified as a possible method to motivate participation, engagement, and loyalty of the employees. This study investigated the role of gamification in boosting job satisfaction and engagement when a gamified HRM system is in place. A longitudinal study (12 months) of 398 employees, including a treatment and control group, of a large multinational company reveals the important role that gamification experiential outcomes have on driving employees’ satisfaction and engagement at work. Overall, our study highlights the important role of the gamified HRM system in influencing employee’s behavior and its individual outcomes.
