Background

EU Citizenship was formally established in November 1993. Between 2013 and 2017 the bEUcitizen project, funded by the European Commission’s Seventh Framework Programme, sought to investigate the nature of the concept of citizenship, its legal, social and political ramifications, as well as the remaining barriers to its realization in the various Member States. One of the key outputs is a novel interdisciplinary book series, published with Edward Elgar. On Friday, 13 December 2019, two of the latest volumes will be discussed during a Symposium that aims to offer critical reflections and insights on the first 25 years of EU citizenship in practice.
