UniTrento in Rovereto: a new three-year development plan

Versione stampabile

The new collaboration fields between the University of Trento and the city of Rovereto are Mechatronics,  Cognitive science, Architecture and Design,  Music and Language

This was set out in the new three-year framework programme (2014/16) which integrates and strengthens the collaboration between the university and Rovereto, paving the way for new training and research initiatives, labs, and specific learning programmes.

The agreement was presented today by the Rector Daria de Pretis, the Mayor of Rovereto Andrea Miorandi and the Municipal Councillor for Education and Culture,
Giovanna Sirotti. It will be annually financed by the Municipality of Rovereto, to support the University activity in Rovereto. The agreement will be used to finance year after year specific activities: four new research grants will be financed in 2014, as well as education labs in Rovereto.

Among the general principles the agreement fosters the support of teaching and research activities carried out by the Department of Psychology and Cognitive science and in particular the orientation activity for students and training courses for teachers, through the organisation of teaching labs and the dissemination of scientific results.

The agreement will also support the CIMEC - MIND/BRAIN CENTRE and the  Centre of Neurocognitive Rehabilitation (CeRiN), within the more general re-design project of the Ex Manifattura Tabacchi. Stars of the agreement are the activities performed by the Department of Cognitive science and Neurosciences, which are increasingly important at international level.

The study of intellectuals connected with the city of Rovereto, like the philosopher Antonio Rosmini and the Greek scholar Mario Untersteiner, is particularly important, through promotional activities carried out above all in the field of Humanities and Literature.

The field of Industrial engineering and Mechatronics is also particularly important for the local community, adding up to the new focus on the initiatives in the field of architecture and construction, arts and design.

The objective of the agreement is the strengthening of the collaboration between the University of Trento and the local community of Rovereto, starting from its museums. The cultural heritage will further strengthen the collaboration which already connects the university library system with the Municipal Library of Rovereto, through joint initiatives and the mutual exchange of areas and buildings for events, services, teaching and research activities.

In the past the collaboration between UniTrento and the municipality of Rovereto led to the implementation of important research projects, through scholarships and grants, as well as the organisation of international conferences and initiatives fostering the cultural and scientific exchange on shared research interests.

The four grants awarded in 2014 will deal with: a project on music and language; a project on the publication of unpublished books by the Greek scholar Mario Untersteiner; a CIMEC project on the protection of soft fruits from weed fruit flies with sustainable strategies; a project, in the field of mechatronics, to develop an augmented reality system for the support to people working on machine tools.
