Astronaut and Aerospace Engineer Paolo Nespoli is the protagonist of an event open to the public on the topic of "Human Exploration of Space", organized on the occasion of the 1st National Day of the PhD in Space Science and Technology - SST.
With three space missions under his belt, including two long-duration stays on the International Space Station, the Italian astronaut will share the emotions and behind-the-scenes stories of one of the most extraordinary human experiences: life in space

How to participate

Admission to the event is free but by reservation only, as seating is limited.
If the seats in the auditorium are fully booked, it will still be possible to watch a live stream of the event in the adjacent room, Room 006, via video connection.

On-line registration is closed, but there are still some free seats. Those who would like to participate can come to the event venue. Access will be subject to seats availability.

Who is Paolo Nespoli

After obtaining a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Aeronautics and Astronautics from the Polytechnic University of New York, he worked in Italy as a Design Engineer before being hired by the European Astronaut Centre of the European Space Agency (ESA) in Cologne, Germany, as an Astronaut Training Engineer.
In 1998, he was selected as an astronaut by the Italian Space Agency, incorporated into the European astronaut corps of ESA, and assigned to NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston.
His first spaceflight was in 2007: STS-120, a short-duration mission for the assembly of the International Space Station (ISS).
In 2010-11, he flew to the ISS for a long-duration mission, Expedition 26/27, and again in 2017 with Expedition 52/53. In total, he has spent 313 days in space.
After leaving active service in 2018, he established Astropaolo s.r.l., a company through which he manages his outreach, scientific, and consultancy activities.
Nespoli is also a versatile essayist: his latest novel, "L'unico giorno giusto per arrendersi" (The Only Right Day to Surrender), was published at the end of 2022.
