Microsoft E.R.P in 2020: a cloud journey

Abstract

The “As a Service Software” (A.a.S.S.) and cloud computing are changing the rules of the game and are driving companies towards digital transformation.
Microsoft strategy for cloud promotion provides for the creation of an entire ecosystem of solutions which include E.R.P. systems (Enterprise Resource Planning) among others. The introduction of 4 and 5 G networks, the extensive increase in the coverage, together with the boost given by the COVID pandemic have accelerated this process making it absolutely necessary in today’s world. This workshop shows the case study of a company moving its IT system from an On-Premise implementation, thus based on software and servers installed in a local network, to a cloud infrastructure. We will show how the adoption of totally cloud E.R.P. systems works, so that they can be used as services and are accessible from any device such as PCs, tablets or smartphones, without needing any hardware infrastructures or company networks. We will point out how new technologies allow to use not only a single software, but they also meet the main needs of a modern company in a totally integrated way:

• Personal Productivity: MS office
• Communication: emails, instant messaging and MS Teams cooperation
• Data Analytics and Business intelligence: Power BI
• Mobility: usage with 4-5 G mobile networks and consumer-type devices
• Management of development activities and of the applications’ life cycle: DevOps

We will focus on technologies which allow the realization, distribution and sale of new market solutions able to extend and integrate the thousands of components and functionalities already available:
