Versione stampabile

A copy of the complete works of Martino Martini, a Jesuit missionary from Trentino who lived in the mid-seventeenth century and worked in China, who authored important works in the field of history, geography and philology, was donated to Pope Francis in Rome during the general audience of Wednesday 26 October.

After the audience in St. Peter's Square, Pope Francis welcomed the delegation composed of Rector Flavio Deflorian, the president of the Martino Martini Center Maurizio Marchese, the Archbishop emeritus Monsignor Luigi Bressan, the scientific director of the Martino Martini Center Riccardo Scartezzini, the curators of the complete works Davor Antonucci and Luisa M. Paternicò, the director of the Martino Martini Center Marcella Orrù, and the representatives of its founding institutions, the Province of Trento, the Diocese of Trento and Federazione Trentina delle Cooperative.

The complete works were collected in eight recently published volumes, which include a critical edition of the writings of Martino Martini, translated and annotated, with appendices on history and iconography.

The complete works were published at the initiative of Franco Demarchi and Giuliano Bertuccioli, supervised by Riccardo Scartezzini and curated by Federico Masini (Sapienza University of Rome).
