A remarkable accomplishment for a young graduate from the University of Trento.

Valerio Valentini, who graduated in humanities and philology and literary criticism at the University of Trento, was awarded the Premio Campiello days ago in the “Opera Prima” section for his novel “Gli 80 di Camporammaglia”, published by Laterza.

“A choral novel – says the back cover – filled with intertwined stories of courage and desolation which, with realist force, bear witness to a way of life that seems to belong to a long-gone era”. With this debut novel, Valentini was able to obtain one of Italy’s most prestigious literary prizes and one of the most regarded in the Italian publishing industry since its establishment, in 1962.

The news were received with great pleasure by Claudio Giunta, the professor of the Department of Humanities who supervised Valentini’s thesis in 2015, and by Rector Paolo Collini, who met him when he, as a student, participated in an internship at the University’s press office.

“I publicly congratulate Valerio Valentini, a former student and talented young journalist, for this accomplishment which honours his creativity and writing skills” commented Collini. “I hope that his success will encourage other students of our University to work hard, believe in themselves and pursue their passions. Young students who, like Valerio, bring their talents to our University in Trento from all over Italy”.
