Team "Lemur” Wins Ipsp2018

Industrial Problem Solving with Physics

Versione stampabile

The fifth edition of IPSP has come to an end with the victory of the solution presented for LeMur from Ala, which asked to solve the problem of static charges that form on the surface of rubber yarns. Overall, three problems were submitted by the industrial partners participating in this edition, i.e. Leitner Ropeways, Centro Ricerche Ducati Energia and Le Mur Italy.

The winning team was selected from three groups of students that worked hard and enthusiastically for five days to find innovative solutions to the technological problems presented by the companies. The groups were made up of research fellows, grant holders, PhDs, master’s students and young graduates under 35 years of age from different parts of the world.

Flavio Deflorian (Prorector with mandate to support the business sector, University of Trento), Francesco Pederiva (Department of Physics, University of Trento) Luca Arighi (Confindustria Trento, president of the Metal working and mechanics division) and Paolo Gregori (Polo Meccatronica – Trentino Sviluppo, director of the ProM Facility) addressed the audience at the awarding ceremony.

IPSP - Industrial Problem Solving with Physics is an event organized by the Department of Physics, the Doctoral School in Physics, and the Scientific Research and Technology Transfer Division of the University of Trento together with Confindustria Trento (the Employers’ Association) and Polo Meccatronica - Trentino Sviluppo, with collaboration from the Contamination Lab in Trento. The goal of ISPS is to strengthen the interaction between research in physics and the business world to enhance the profession of physicist and, in general, of young researchers in science.
