SMACT: the new Competence Center of Triveneto

On 17 December, at the University of Padova, the representatives of 40 public and private organizations signed the memorandum of association of SMACT, a consortium that will oversee the Competence Center of Triveneto to encourage research and business collaboration in “Industria 4.0” technologies.

The name of the new organization is an acronym built from the 5 areas in which it will work: Social, Mobile, Analytics, Cloud and Internet of Things. 

The University of Trento is one of the founding members of SMACT, with the universities of Padova, Verona, Ca’ Foscari, IUAV, Bolzano, Udine and SISSA in Trieste.

The Competence Center received funding amounting to 7 million euro from the Ministry of Economic development to work mainly in 3 areas:

  1. orientation services for businesses and SME in particular, by providing them with useful instruments to help them assess their digital and technological advancements; 
  2. training for businesses, to enhance and disseminate the competences required by Industria 4.0 through formal training, training on the job and real applications;
  3. innovation, industrial research and experimental development projects presented by businesses, and provision of technology transfer services within Industria 4.0, including by stimulating innovation within businesses and SME in particular.

The president of the Supervisory board of the Center is Daniele Finocchiaro, who also chairs the Board of Directors of the University of Trento.

The head office of SMACT is at the San Giobbe Economic Campus at Ca' Foscari University of Venice.
