The Neuroscience Olympics are the Italian chapter of the International Brain Bee - IBB, an international competition for high school students aged between 13 and 19 that challenges students on their knowledge of neuroscience.

The topics students have to face include, among others: intelligence, memory, emotions, stress, ageing, sleep, and nervous system disorders.

The purpose of the competition is to inspire school-age students to study the structure and functioning of the human brain and to attract young talents to pursue research careers in basic and clinical neuroscience, to tackle one of the millennium challenges.

The 2018 Neuroscience Olympics run in 3 stages:

  • a local stage (16 February 2018) in schools. Every school selects its 5 best students;
  • a regional stage (17 March 2018), in which the 3 best candidates are selected in every Italian region;
  • a National stage (4-5 May 2018, in Catania), in which the winner is selected from among the regional finalists. The winner will receive a scholarship to represent Italy in the international competition, which will take place in Berlin from 7 to 11 July 2018.

The University of Trento will host the regional phase of the competition on 17 March at the Department of Humanities.
